Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Banana Slugs and Athenas tie in spirited game

After an energetic back-and-forth game, neither UC Santa Cruz nor Claremont-Mudd-Scripps could find the net in a 0-0 draw at the Lower East Field Sunday afternoon.

Claremont had an 11-10 shot advantage, but the Banana Slugs (5-2-2) had a 6-3 edge on shots on goal.

UC Santa Cruz forward Amanda Scott had a pair of good chances in the first half that were saved, and another opportunity where her pressure almost beat CMS goalie Sadie Brown with pressure in the 18-yard box before the Athenas' goalkeeper scrambled to cover up the ball.

In the second half, UC Santa Cruz had a flurry of chances in the 61st minute, but both Scott and Bronwyn Eyre had their shots saved, with Eyre's long-distance blast was covered up before any Banana Slug could pounce on the rebound. The Athenas had a good chance a minute later, but Alyssa Diaz-Tucker deftly pushed the shot away for a corner. Diaz Tucker also had a save in the 88th minute after a CMS corner to keep the shutout.
