Women's Volleyball close Texas trip with win over Susquehanna

SAN ANTONIO- The UC Santa Cruz women's volleyball team finished off a great weekend in the Lone Star State with their third win in the Trinity Invitational. They defeated Susquehanna 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-23, 25-12 to improve to 16-4 on the season with their seventh-straight win.
The first set started with The River Hawks taking a 4-0 lead, but the Banana Slugs found their footing and tied it with their own 4-0 capped by a kill from Kelly Ann Greene. After three more ties, UC Santa Cruz took the lead for good with an 8-1 run that made it 15-8. Susquehanna climbed back to within 1 at 16-15 before UC Santa Cruz took the set on Samantha Taylor's kill to finish a 9-2 run.
The second set had Susquehanna in the lead for most of it before UC Santa Cruz tied it at 17-all after an 8-3 run capped by Taylor's ace. The River Hawks however took the lead back at the next point and held off the Banana Slugs to take the set.
Set Three was also close, with 11 ties before consecutive kills by Audrey Gilbert and Peyton Tazelaar finished it off. The fourth set was all Banana Slugs. UC Santa Cruz opened leads of 11-3 and 22-8 before a Susquehanna service error ended the match.

Overall, UC Santa Cruz outhit the River Hawks .241 to .105 with 55 kills compared to Susquehanna's 33. Greene had 15 kills and hit .565. Taylor added 12. Sinead Beaupain had team-highs of 31 assists and three aces. Emily Pasion had 23 digs.
The Banana Slugs return to California for two road games next weekend, starting Friday at Chapman.
