Sophomore
Furio Jacomini's first half goal was the winner as UC Santa Cruz beat William Jessup 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Banana Slugs improve to 4-7-2 after their second-straight shutout and first back-to-back wins this season.
UC Santa Cruz used their bench to perfection for the midweek matchup. Jacomini scored within 5 minutes of coming in the game for his first career goal. He split the defense to tap home a sitter after a pass from the right wing by
Derek Uemura.Â
Fellow substitute
Acer Cristea almost doubled the lead just 1:44 into the second half, but couldn't get his shot from the left of the goal on target. The Warriors had chances near the end to equalize. In the 87th minute, the Banana Slugs cleared out a corner kick after a scramble. The Warriors then had a shot with 48 seconds left that goalkeeper
Arman Salimi smothered at the right post to seal the win.
Salimi finished with two saves. William Jessup had a slight 13-12 shot advantage.
The Banana Slugs next hit the road when they go to Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.
