PALO ALTO- UC Santa Cruz closed their quick Norcal roadtrip with a 3-1 (11-25, 20-25, 25-23, 14-25) loss to Division I Stanford on Saturday evening.
Senior
Cinjun Coe led UCSC (0-6) with 14 kills and .242 hitting in his first start of the season. He also had a team-high 14 digs.
Colton Jeffrey added 7 kills and 3 block assists.
Tennessee Fulks had 19 assists.
The Banana Slugs started slow in losing the first set, but regained their composure and were even with the Cardinal much of Set Two. However, the Cardinal closed on a 5-0 run to take the set.
The third set had 11 ties before the Banana Slugs won after scoring the last four points, courtesy of kills by Coe and
Zachary Thompson as well as Thompson and
Chicory Roth combining on a pair of blocks. Set Four had the Banana Slugs within 11-9 before Stanford closed on a 14-5 run to take the match.
Overall, Stanford outserved UCSC 11-0 in service aces and totaled 50 kills to UCSC's 36.
The Banana Slugs have three matches back at home next weekend, beginning with Senior Day against Concordia (Wisc.) Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
