SANTA CRUZ (2-18) – The Banana Slugs played the second match of a two-match homestand as they took on ITA/NCAA Division III #27 Whitman College in Santa Cruz. The Blues defeated the Banana Slugs 7-2.

This match was a rematch of a match that was played on October 20^th in Walla Walla that saw the Blues win 6-3. Both teams lost their last match. The Banana Slugs lost 9-0 to ITA/NCAA Division III #21 Trinity University in Santa Cruz on Saturday while the Blues lost 5-4 to Trinity in San Francisco on Saturday.

The Blues won five singles matches while the Banana Slugs won one. In the #5 singles match between Ines Pelvang of UC Santa Cruz defeated Audrey Grigore 6-2, 6-4. In the #3 singles match between Kayla Manz of the Banana Slugs and Whitman's Anastasiya Redkina, Redkina defeated Manz 6-1, 6-2. In the #4 singles match between Sabrina Lieu of UC Santa Cruz and Lori Sheng, Sheng defeated Lieu 6-4, 7-6. In the #2 singles match, Mary Hill of the Blues defeated Isabelle Brown 6-4, 6-2. In the #6 singles match, Kattie Pak of Whitman edged Vivian Lee 6-4, 7-6 (6). The tightest singles match of the day was at #1 between Ashley Isaac of the Banana Slugs and Andrea Gu of the Blues. Gu, the 27th ranked player in the country, defeated Isaac 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.

In the #2 doubles match, Lieu and Therese Recidoro of UC Santa Cruz defeated Pak and Sheng 8-3. In the #1 doubles match, nationally-ranked Gu and Hill defeated Brown and Isaac 8-1. The tightest doubles match was the #2 doubles match between Manz and Pelvang of UC Santa Cruz and Grigore/Redkina of Whitman which finished 8-6 for the Whitman duo.

UC Santa Cruz hosts American River College Saturday the 23rd as part of a doubleheader with the men before they take on NCAA Division II member Dominican University March 2^nd in San Rafael.
