ARCATA - The UCSC Sea Lions lost a pair of non-conference basketball games
Friday and Saturday to Humboldt State, due to their inability to rebound
against the taller and stronger Lumberjacks. The Sea Lions lost to Humboldt
State on Friday, 97-52, then fell to the Lumberjacks on Saturday, 87-38.
"Not being able to rebound with them really hurt us," Coach Joe Richardson
said. "They beat us very badly on the boards both nights. We didn't hit a good
percentage of our first shots and we weren't getting any second shots."
The two losses pushed UCSC's current losing streak to seven on the season.
"Both games were very physical," Richardson said. "They are a very good-sized
team and they took it to us inside." UCSC, which dips to 1-7 on the season,
played without the services of two starters. David Brandt missed the trip due
to an ankle injury while Russ Henshall opted to remain home and study for
exams.
UCSC was outrebounded on Friday by a 55-31 margin and on Saturday by 62-25.
