Justin Long serves as the Assistant Director for Operations & Member Services at UC Santa
Cruz, where he oversees the day-to-day operations of the university’s Athletics and Recreation
facilities. He joined UCSC in May of 2025, with his role encompassing facility management,
emergency preparedness systems, membership services, and event coordination—ensuring
smooth, safe, and inclusive experiences for students, faculty, staff, and community members
alike.
At the heart of Justin’s work is a deep passion for student development. He leads the
recruitment, training, and supervision of approximately 80 student employees, creating a
workplace that prioritizes leadership growth, inclusivity, and real-world learning. He also plays a
key role in financial reconciliation, budget maintenance, and supporting game day operations.
Justin previously served as the Graduate Assistant for Facility Operations and Member Services
at the University of Dayton while completing his Master’s degree in Higher Education and
Student Affairs in 2025. He was honored with the Graduate Research Award for Scholarship
for his thesis, An Experiential Learning Perspective on Student Employment Training,
highlighting his commitment to experiential learning models that support student success.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Leadership and
Consulting from Binghamton University, where he graduated in 2022. With a unique blend of
operational expertise and student affairs training, Justin brings a student-centered lens to
strategic decision-making and departmental leadership.
Outside of work, Justin maintains an active lifestyle—playing basketball, training jiu jitsu,
exploring new hiking routes, and always discovering new hobbies. He also is a passionate
sports fan, with a lifelong love for the New York Mets. Justin leads with a service oriented
mindset, and is thrilled to be a part of the Banana Slugs community.
