SAN FRANCISCO, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz women's cross country team opened their season with an 11th place finish at the 32nd annual USF Invitational at the Golden Gate Park on Friday afternoon. The Banana Slugs finished the 6k race with 306 points as a team, recording a total team time of 1:58.07 with an average time of 23:38. Notably, the Banana Slugs saw four runners finishing inside the top 100 overall with all seven scoring runners finishing in the top 110.
How It Happened
Ronni Strzynski led the way for UCSC, finishing in 36th place with a time of 22:17.8.
Fiona Wolf was the next Banana Slug to cross the line, running a 22:45.4 in her collegiate debut to take 53rd.
Holly Alchin,
Rosey Harris, and
Madelyn Basinet all turned in strong performances to round out the top five for UCSC, finishing in 24:06.9, 24:23.2, and 24:33.2 with the trio taking 97th, 100th, and 102nd.
Hayden Flynn and
Meeran Gill rounded out the top seven for UCSC with Flynn taking 106th in 24:56.6 while Gill crossed the line in 25:23.5 to take 109th.
