GENEVA, Oh. – The UC Santa Cruz men's and women's track and field team wrapped up their 2025 season with four competitors representing the Banana Slugs at the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Most notably,
Eric Anderson made his way to the podium one last time as the senior concluded his career with his fourth All-American honor, coming in the 1500m.
The Banana Slugs began their weekend at the NCAA Championships with
Evan Hofstetter making his NCAA debut in the decathlon on Thursday morning. Hofstetter started the day with a 10.99 in the 100m and later jumped 6.86m in long jump with both marks standing as the second best performances on the day in the field. Hofstetter threw 9.71m in shot put and jumped 1.76m in high jump before clocking a 49.71 second 400m race to round out day one of the decathlon. Hofstetter's 400m was the second fastest time in the field and pushed him into fifth place overall with 3,533 points. On day two of the decathlon, Hofstetter opened the day with a 17.72 in the 110m hurdles before throwing 26.82m in discus. Hofstetter later jumped 3.70m in pole vault and threw 41.67m in the javelin. Perhaps the most exciting event of the weekend was the 1500m as Hofstetter stormed around the track to set a lifetime best time of 4:19.25, leaving it all on the track to close out the decathlon with Second Team All-American honors and 6,304 points, finishing in 12th place overall.
Eric Anderson and
Graeme Maclean were next on the track as the duo spiked up for the 1500m. In a heavily contested NCAA heat, Maclean made his NCAA debut and took 22nd overall with a time of 3:59.13.
Eric Anderson ran out of heat two, running the first two laps at the back of the pack before surging to the front at the 1100m mark. Anderson turned in a 58.04 second last lap to take third second in his heat to advance to the Championship final.
Anderson laced up the spikes for his final collegiate race on Saturday afternoon and made it worth his while once again. The senior stuck with his normal race strategy, taking things out near the back of the pack before slowly working his way towards the front, jumping up four spots into 7th halfway through the race. Anderson dropped a 56.68 second final lap to move into sixth place with a time of 3:50.50, earning his fourth First Team All-American honors to cap off his career.
Kenzie Seymour was the final competitor for UCSC, competing in the 3k steeplechase prelims on Thursday evening. Seymour was in good position for the first few laps, holding strong through 1k in the top five of her heat but ultimately finished in 22nd overall with a time of 11:53.20.
