Records Fall for Track and Field in San Francisco

BERKELEY, Ca. - UC Santa Cruz's Evan Hofstetter delivered a breakthrough performance at the Brutus Hamilton Multi, scoring a lifetime-best 6,259 points in the decathlon to place 8th overall. In addition to his overall personal record, Hofstetter also notched individual lifetime bests in the shot put, discus, and 1500 meters, marking a major milestone in his multi-event career. The rest of the team delivered record breaking performances at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at SF State including nationally competitive times from Elena Stanciu, Kenzie Seymour Luke Holland, and Eric Anderson

Brutus Hamilton Multi
Hofstetter opened the competition with a strong showing in the 100 meters, clocking 11.18 seconds. He continued the momentum with a leap of 6.78 meters in the long jump and then recorded a personal best in the shot put, reaching 10.11 meters.
In the high jump, Hofstetter cleared 1.75 meters before closing day one with the top time in the 400 meters, an impressive 49.68-second run that earned him 1st place in the event to finish day one with 3,489 points.

Day two started with the 110-meter hurdles, where he finished in 18.63 seconds. Hofstetter then launched another personal best in the discus, throwing 31.74 meters and cleared 3.65 in the pole vault. He continued to add to his total with a javelin throw of 43.55 meters before closing out the meet with a huge finish, winning the 1500 meters in a lifetime best of 4:23.20.
The performance marked a significant leap forward from his previous best of 5,875 points, set at the 2024 Redlands Final Qualifier.

Women's Highlights
5,000m: Helena Janku led the way for the Banana Slugs, turning in a 17:35.38, finishing in 56th overall while moving into fourth on the all-time top ten list for the Banana Slugs.

3,000m Steeplechase: Kenzie Seymour made headlines for the Banana Slugs in this event, setting a new program record time of 10:52.21 on the same track the previous record was ran at (Ash Baudin, 10:52.84, Mike Fanelli TC). Seymour's time gave her second place overall among NCAA Division I competitors and stands as the seventh fastest time ran in NCAA Division III so far this season.

1,500m: Elena Stanciu kept the momentum from Indoor NCAAs going as she flew through the three and three quarter laps in 4:35.14 which stands as a top 15 time in the country while taking 30th at the meet. Sydney Boyd and Sara Teitelbaum also performed well with the duo taking 56th and 63rd after crossing the line in 4:40.58 and 4:42.04.  

800m: The Banana Slugs had Elena Stanciu, Lucia Muthu, and Sara Teitelbaum all break the 2:20 barrier with Stanciu dropping a 2:16.92 while Muthu and Teitelbaum ran 2:18.11 and 2:18.37.

110m Hurdles: Isha Kasanagottu took 14th with a time of 16.72s while Akira Jones ran 17.00s with Olivia Marino running 17.44s.

Distance Medley Relay: The DMR team of Janku, Caitlin Donovan, Seymour, and Madelyn Basinet combined for a time of 12:41.68 to take sixth.

400m: Mae Stafford turned in a 1:00.59 to take 12th overall.

100m: Amaya Cummins took fourth overall in the 100m, running 12.55s with a .8 m/s tailwind while Camille Anneet ran a 12.62s to jump into third all-time in program history while taking eighth in the meet.

400m Hurdles: Alicia Dasalla took 16th with a time of 1:10.96 while Aditi Kamble took 19th in 1:12.45.

4x400m Relay: The 4x4 relay team of Anneet, Cummins, Donovan, and Stafford won the event by over four seconds, combining for a 4:07.67.

Long Jump: Akira Jones took 12th place with a 4.86m jump with Celine Castaneda taking 13th after recording a 4.80m jump.

Triple Jump: Castaneda took 10th with a 10.19m jump on her second attempt.

High Jump: Castaneda and Eliza Scheng tied for eighth in the high jump with the duo both clearing 1.47m.

Pole Vault: Allyson Petersen took 11th with a 2.90m clearance.

Men's Highlights
10,000m: Luke Holland continued his strong start to the outdoor season, breaking the 10k program record with a time of 30:19.81, taking 12th overall.

5,000m: Graeme Maclean led the way for UCSC, dropping just under the 15 minute barrier with a time of 14:59.59 to finish in 64th overall.

3,000m Steeplechase: The Banana Slugs saw strong performances from both Camden Hebert and Viktor Kieturakis as the duo took 20th and 23rd with times of 9:38.68 and 9:42.48.

1,500m: Eric Anderson made headlines in the event, shattering the program record (3:53.50) by over eight seconds with a time of 3:45.02. Anderson's time gave him second place in a field of over 170 runners, including NCAA Division I student-athletes, while putting himself second in the nation. Notably, this is Anderson's first outdoor race of the 2025 season with his most recent competition being an NCAA Championships Indoor Mile fourth place performance.

800m: If the 1500m wasn't enough, Anderson doubled with a 1:51.09 to lead the Banana Slugs, finishing in 5th place while Aaron Hillberg took 35th with a time of 1:54.39.

110m Hurdles: Sotirios Kougiouris had a stellar day in the 110m hurdles, clocking a time of 15.67 seconds to take third while Maxwell Holbrook took eight in 16.46s.

Distance Medley Relay: The DMR team of Maclean, Camden Jaureguy, Hillberg, and Nathan Bruce combined for a fourth place time of 10:15.75.

400m: The 400m was a strong event for UCSC as Levi Laden, Shiven Karnik, and Shiv Mohan all turned in sub 50 times of 49.46s, 49.72s, and 49.97s to take first, third, and fourth.

100m: Arthur Gainant and James Contini took fifth and sixth as the duo crossed the line in 10.85s (+ 0.1 m/s) and 11.02s (+ 1.0 m/s).

400m Hurdles: Sotirios Kougiouris and Soujit Ing finished side by side to take fifth and sixth with Kougiouris leading the way in 57.07s while Ing finished in 57.33s.

4x400m Relay: The 4x4 relay team of Laden, Bruhn, Karnik, and Hillberg combined for a time of 3:20.84 to take second overall.

Long Jump: Tetsuo Eng led the way for UCSC, taking second overall after jumping 6.56m on his third attempt.

High Jump: Eng also competed in high jump, taking seventh with a 1.74m clearance.

Pole Vault: Erik Dodge took second place in the pole vault after clearing 4.50m.
