GEORGETOWN, Tx. - The No. 38 UC Santa Cruz women's tennis team took home a 5-2 victory over the No. 25 Southwestern Pirates to wrap up the Texas road trip on Saturday morning. After a sweep in the doubles, the Slugs won No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles. The victory was the third 5-2 win in a row for the Banana Slugs. The Slugs will be taking a two week break before they head to Maryland to play Salisbury University in their final regular season game on May 1st.
How It Happened
The Banana Slugs started off very strong with a couple of decisive doubles sets. No. 1
Sara Beckman and
Natalie Sprenger set the tone for the Slugs with a 6-2 win. No. 2
Chloe Wu and
Melody Ghaffari also rolled to an easy win 6-3. To finish things up in the doubles, No. 3
Sweden Van Houten and Meghana Damojipruapu cruised to a 6-3 victory.
In singles, UCSC was once again dominant. No. 2
Meghana Damojipurapu picked up the first singles win for the Slugs after her match went 7-6, 6-0. No. 3
Melody Ghaffari picked up another two set victory, 6-2, 7-5. No. 4
Natalie Sprenger had similar success, winning 6-2, 6-4. The last win for the Slugs came from No. 4
Chloe Wu, who strolled to a win 6-3, 6-3.
