LAGRANGE, Ga. – The UC Santa Cruz men's tennis team capped off the weekend with a 5-2 victory over the East Texas Baptist Tigers on Sunday afternoon.
How It Happened
UCSC started the day with a win at No. 3 doubles, as
Arjun Tandon and
Praneet Varade delivered a strong performance, taking down their opponents 6-3. However, East Texas Baptist captured the doubles point by winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Andrew Tjoa and
Benjamin Wang fell 1-6 at the top spot, while
Mayur Nookala and
Radin Sadeghi came up short 4-6 at No. 2.
Despite trailing after doubles, the Slugs surged back with a dominant showing in singles, winning five of the six matches.
Andrew Tjoa led the way at No. 1 singles, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Radin Sadeghi followed with a gritty performance at No. 2, pulling through in a tight second-set tiebreak to win 6-1, 7-6(7).
Benjamin Wang made quick work of his opponent at No. 4 singles with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 victory, and
Mayur Nookala was equally efficient at No. 5, not dropping more than a single game in a 6-0, 6-1 rout.
At No. 6 singles,
Arjun Tandon clinched the final point for the Slugs, holding off a late push to secure a 6-3, 7-6(9) win. The lone singles loss for UCSC came at No. 3, where
Praneet Varade was defeated 3-6, 3-6.
