LAKE BLUFF, Ill. – The UC Santa Cruz women's tennis team secured a commanding 5-2 victory over the Lake Forest College Foresters on Monday evening, showcasing their strength in both singles and doubles play.
How It Happened
The Banana Slugs set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to gain the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles team of
Sara Beckman and
Natalie Sprenger took their match 6-4 to start the day. The No. 2 pairing of
Chloe Wu and
Melody Ghaffari followed with a 6-4 victory of their own. At No. 3 doubles, Sweden VanHouten and
Meghana Damojipurapu delivered a dominant performance, shutting out their opponents 6-0. With these victories, UC Santa Cruz took an early 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
UC Santa Cruz carried their momentum into singles, winning four of the six matches. At No. 3 singles,
Melody Ghaffari battled through a tough match, ultimately securing a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 victory. At No. 4 singles,
Natalie Sprenger put together a dominant performance, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Chloe Wu continued the team's strong showing with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, while Sweden VanHouten clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
Despite strong efforts, UC Santa Cruz dropped two singles matches. At No. 1 singles,
Sara Beckman fought hard but ultimately fell in a close battle, losing 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Meghana Damojipurapu also put up a strong effort at No. 2 singles but came up short, losing 6-3, 6-3.
