NAPERVILLE, Il. – The UC Santa Cruz women's tennis team dropped a hard fought 4-3 match to the North Central College Cardinals ln Sunday evening. UC Santa Cruz was able to clinch the doubles point with victories at two and three but struggled in singles, picking up just two wins at four and five.
Sara Beckman and
Natalie Sprenger dropped the No. 1 doubles match 6-1 but No. 2
Chloe Wu and
Melody Ghaffari took their match 6-1 to level things at 1-1 against the Cardinals.
Meghana Damojipurapuv and
Sweden Van Houten earned a 6-3 victory in their match at No. 3 doubles to give UCSC the 1-0 lead after the doubles matches.
In singles, UCSC fell at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 with
Sara Beckman and
Natalie Sprenger both falling in straight sets at 6-4, 6-0, and 6-2, 6-3, respectively.
Meghana Damojipurapuv lost in three sets, taking set one 6-4 before falling 6-1, 6-1 in the second and third set. Julia Azzi also faced a tough three set loss, dropping the opening set 6-3 before taking 6-2. Unfortunately, Azzi dropped the third set 6-4 in the loss.
The Slugs did see wins out of
Melody Ghaffari and
Chloe Wu at No. 4 and No. 5 singles with Ghaffari taking her match 6-1, 6-2 while
Chloe Wu took her match 6-2, 6-2.
