SACRAMENTO, CA. – The UC Santa Cruz track and field team put together an impressive showing at the Hornet Invitational, earning competitive marks against strong opponents. Next, the Slugs will compete at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic from April 3-5 in San Francisco, Ca.
Women's Meet Highlights
· Women's High Jump - Eliza Zheng had a strong showing for the Slugs, clearing 1.59m (5' 2.5") to secure a fifth-place finish.
· Women's Pole Vault – Allyson Petersen cleared 2.93m (9' 7.25"), finishing in eighth place for UC Santa Cruz.
· Women's 5000 Meters – Kenzie Seymour led the Slugs with a time of 17:25.45, finishing in 15th place. Sydney Boyd followed closely, securing 16th with a time of 17:44.63.
· Women's 400m Hurdles – Alicia Dasalla completed the race in 1:08.72, securing 30th place.
· Women's 3000m Steeplechase – Sofia Placias led the Slugs with a time of 11:50.98, finishing in 20th place. Emma Wirz followed closely and finished in 21st with a time of 12:02.65. Cheryl Chuang completed the race in 12:28.99, placing 29th.
· Women's Discus – Whitney Porter led the way for the Slugs with a throw of 33.56m (110' 1"), securing 20th place.
· Women's Shot Put – Whitney Porter recorded a throw of 8.72m (28' 7.5"), securing 36th place.
· Women's Javelin – Kailey Leba threw 29.50m (96' 9"), finishing in 34th place.
· Women's 100m – Amaya Cummins led the Slugs with a time of 12.48 seconds, finishing in 32nd place. Camille Anneet followed with a time of 12.70 seconds, securing 42nd place.
· Women's 400m – Caitlin Donovan recorded a time of 58.78 seconds, finishing in 32nd place. Mae Stafford followed with a time of 1:00.19, securing 40th place.
· Women's 800m – Sara Teitelbaum finished with a time of 2:20.31, placing 29th. Rosey Harris followed closely with a time of 2:21.30, securing 31st place.
Men's Meet Highlights
· Men's 5000m – Luke Holland's time of 14:18.09 at the Hornet Invitational breaks the UCSC school record for the men's 5000m, surpassing Eric Jackson's 14:24.72 set at the Azusa Pacific Last Chance in 2023. Holland's time now stands as the fastest in UCSC history and is currently the No. 2 time in the country.
· Men's 400m – Levi Laden set a school record with a time of 48.73 seconds, finishing in 14th place. Evan Hofstetter followed with a time of 49.44 seconds, securing 29th place. Shiven Karnik clocked 49.93 seconds, earning 38th place, while Nathan Bruhn ran 50.12 seconds to place 40th.
· Men's 3000 Meter Steeplechase – Nick Sciole finished in 9:59.71, placing 17th for the Slugs.
· Men's 4x400 Meter Relay – The UCSC 'A' team of Aaron Hillberg, Nathan Bruhn, Shiven Karnik, and Evan Hofstetter clocked in at 3:22.47, finishing 14th.
· Men's Pole Vault – Erik Dodge had a strong performance for the Slugs, clearing 4.43m (14' 6.25") to secure second place. Evan Hofstetter followed with a vault of 3.58m (11' 9"), earning eighth place.
· Men's 110m Hurdles – Sotirios Kougiouris led the Slugs with a time of 15.74 seconds to place 19th. Erik Dodge followed in 16.81 seconds to take 35th, Maxwell Holbrook clocked 17.15 seconds to place 37th, and Evan Hofstetter finished in 17.40 seconds for 38th place.
· Men's 400m Hurdles – Soujit Ing led the Slugs with a time of 57.23 seconds, finishing 26th. Sotirios Kougiouris followed in 57.91 seconds to place 27th. Caleb Kipp recorded a time of 1:00.47 to take 33rd, while Maxwell Holbrook finished in 1:00.90 for 34th place.
· Men's 100m – Arthur Gainant recorded a time of 10.92 seconds, finishing in 24th place
· Men's 1500m – Graeme Maclean led the Slugs with a strong time of 3:52.79, finishing in fifth place. Camden Jaureguy followed with a time of 3:58.00 to place 29th.
· Men's 800m – Aaron Hillberg led the Slugs with a time of 1:53.35, securing 7th place. Michael Masotti followed with 1:59.53 to place 43rd, while Matthew Riffle (1:59.75) and Marcus Fehlman (2:00.05) finished 47th and 51st, respectively. Desi Herrerias closed with 2:00.60 to take 55th place.
· Men's Long Jump – Tetsuo Eng led the Slugs with a jump of 6.30m (20' 8") to finish 22nd. James Contini followed with a mark of 6.21m (20' 4.5") for 24th place, while Jack Richards recorded a jump of 5.71m (18' 9"), finishing in 36th place.
· Men's Shot Put – Jeremy Hall recorded a mark of 10.71m (35' 1.75") on his first attempt, finishing in 31st place.
· Men's Discus – Jeremy Hall threw 33.38m (109' 6") on his second attempt, securing 34th place.
