SANTA CRUZ, Ca. - The UC Santa Cruz women's tennis team put up a fight on their home courts but ultimately fell 5-2 to the visiting Colorado College Tigers on Friday afternoon.
The match started with doubles play, where the Banana Slugs secured a victory at the No. 1 position. Sara Beckman and Natalie Sprenger edged out Lucia Moravek and Aspen Young in a tight 7-6 battle. However, Colorado College responded by taking the other two doubles matches, as Chloe Wu and Meghana Damojipurapu fell 6-3, while Melody Ghaffari and Sweden Van Houten dropped their match 6-2, giving the Tigers the doubles point.
In singles action, Beckman continued her strong play, earning a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory over Lowe at the top spot. Damojipurapu added another point for UC Santa Cruz with a thrilling three-set victory over Hickman, winning 6-3, 1-6, 7-6. Despite these wins, the Tigers secured the team victory with four singles wins. Sprenger fell 6-3, 6-1, while Wu lost 6-4, 6-3 her match. In a back-and-forth battle, Ghaffari fell 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. The match was sealed Julia Azzi fell 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.
