TURLOCK, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz men's and women's track and field teams performed well in their 2025 outdoor debut at the Kim Duyst Invite held by Stanislaus State. The Slugs will send a squad to Waverly, Iowa for the Wartburg Last Chance Invite on March. 8th.
Men's Highlights
100m:
Tyler Vo led UC Santa Cruz in the men's 100 meters, finishing 19th with a time of 10.98 seconds.
Shiv Mohan followed closely in 30th place with 11.10 seconds, while
Jonathan Stenger clocked 11.17 seconds to place 36th.
Sotirios Kougiouris rounded out the team's performance in 42nd place with a time of 11.29 seconds.
200m:
Nathan Bruhn was the fastest for UC Santa Cruz in the 200 meters, finishing 27th in 22.86 seconds.
Shiven Karnik was next at 22.91 seconds, placing 29th, followed by
James Contini at 22.94 seconds in 30th place.
Sotirios Kougiouris completed the race in 23.65 seconds for 52nd place, while
Maxwell Holbrook recorded a time of 24.39 seconds to finish 66th.
400m:
Caleb Kipp represented UC Santa Cruz in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line in 52.69 seconds to place 18th.
800m:
Camden Jaureguy had a strong showing in the 800 meters, finishing fifth with a time of 1:59.52.
Marcus Fehlman followed in 8th place with 2:01.10, while
Matthew Riffle clocked 2:02.50 for 14th place.
Leland Nguyen finished in 21st place with 2:06.29, with
Eduardo Palma close behind at 27th place in 2:07.46. Other finishers included
Michael Lennox (33rd, 2:08.77),
Ethan Vahle (35th, 2:09.32),
Will Langton (41st, 2:12.14), and
Max Kirkhope (62nd, 2:19.39).
1500m:
Michael Lennox led UC Santa Cruz in the 1500 meters, completing the race in 4:13.63 to place 17th.
Ethan Vahle was next at 4:13.98, finishing 19th, followed by
Eduardo Palma at 4:15.96 in 22nd place and
Nathan Leroy at 4:16.77 in 24th place.
Kelvin Chan finished 30th in 4:19.24, while
Will Langton recorded a time of 4:29.67 for 46th place.
5000m: In Section A of the 5000 meters,
Benthan Vu placed eighth with a time of 15:39.27, while
Nick Sciole and
Alex Wille followed at 15:40.59 and 15:41.23, finishing 9th and 10th, respectively.
Liam Manley crossed the line in 15:45.16 for 11th place, with
Desi Herrerias in 16th place at 15:57.19 and
Michael Masotti in 19th place at 16:16.96. In Section B,
Diego Vizcarra finished third in 15:47.41, while
Gavin Hahn placed fifth in 15:55.44.
110m Hurdles:
Maxwell Holbrook recorded the fastest time for UC Santa Cruz in the 110-meter hurdles at 16.70 seconds, finishing 18th.
Erik Dodge followed in 21st place with 17.08 seconds, while
Soujit Ing completed the race in 20.05 seconds for 23rd place.
4x400m Relay: The UC Santa Cruz A-team of
Nathan Bruhn,
Shiven Karnik,
Shiv Mohan, and
Sotirios Kougiouris secured third place with a time of 3:23.76. The B-team, consisting of
Soujit Ing,
Maxwell Holbrook,
Caleb Kipp, and
Leland Nguyen, finished tenth in 3:33.44.
High Jump:
Tetsuo Eng cleared 1.70m (5'7"), earning a tenth-place finish in the high jump event.
Pole Vault:
Erik Dodge had a strong performance in the pole vault, clearing 4.35m (14'3.25") to finish fourth.
Shot Put:
Jeremy Hall represented UC Santa Cruz in the shot put, throwing a best mark of 10.40m (34'1.5") to place 31st.
Discus:
Jeremy Hall also competed in the discus, recording a top throw of 31.72m (104'1") to finish 35th.
Women's Highlights
100m:
Simone Assaf led the way in the 100m with a time of 13.23s, finishing in 34th, while
Alex Kaplan ran 13.46s to take 42nd.
Allyson Petersen completed the event in 13.81s, securing 45th place.
200m:
Aditi Kamble clocked 27.82s to finish 38th in the 200m.
Simone Assaf followed with a time of 28.36s, placing 47th.
Alicia Dasalla ran 28.54s for 48th, while
Esther Kim and
Olivia Marino finished in 28.75s and 29.10s, taking 50th and 54th places, respectively.
400m:
Alicia Dasalla completed the 400m in 1:04.18, finishing 6th.
Sandrine Martinez followed in 9th place with a time of 1:05.99.
800m:
Sara Teitelbaum led the 800m effort with a time of 2:23.25, placing 5th.
Jordan Robinson ran 2:25.92 to finish 11th, while
Faith Dyogi secured 14th place in 2:28.58.
Madelyn Basinet finished in 2:30.26, placing 20th, and
Madison Lorenz completed the race in 2:33.68, taking 33rd.
1500m:
Lucia Muthu delivered a strong performance in the 1500m, finishing 2nd with a time of 4:45.97.
Sydney Boyd followed closely in 4th place with a time of 4:47.43.
Jordan Robinson ran 4:55.86 for 10th place, while
Rosey Harris and
Cheryl Chuang finished in 14th and 15th with times of 4:57.95 and 4:59.89, respectively.
Frieda Cedillo clocked 5:00.71 for 17th place,
Hope Martin finished 24th in 5:07.13, and
Madison Lorenz and
Madelyn Basinet completed the race in 5:08.16 and 5:09.53, placing 26th and 28th.
5000m:
Ryanne Reynolds completed the 5000m in 18:44.24, securing 5th place, while
Emma Wirz followed in 6th with a time of 19:06.39.
Sofia Placias ran 19:32.74 to finish 14th.
100 Hurdles:
Olivia Marino ran 16.04s in the 100 hurdles to place 15th, while
Akira Jones finished 30th with a time of 22.63s.
4x400 Relay: The UC Santa Cruz team of

Sara Teitelbaum completed the 4x400 relay in 4:23.81, finishing in 6th place.
High Jump:
Eliza Zheng cleared 1.50m (4'11"), earning 4th place in the high jump.
Pole Vault:
Allyson Petersen cleared 2.90m (9'6.25"), finishing in 7th place, while
Faith Dyogi vaulted 2.30m (7'6.5") to place 13th.
Long Jump:
Simone Assaf leaped 4.88m (16'0.25"), securing 12th place.
Akira Jones followed in 13th with a jump of 4.86m (15'11.5"), and
Sandrine Martinez landed at 4.61m (15'1.5") for 17th place.
Triple Jump:
Alex Kaplan placed 4th in the triple jump with a mark of 10.40m (34'1.5").
Shot Put:
Whitney Porter threw 9.07m (29'9.25"), finishing 16th, while
Kailey Leba recorded a mark of 7.93m (26'0.25") to place 23rd.
Discus:
Whitney Porter finished 10th in the discus with a throw of 30.85m (101'2").
Kailey Leba placed 22nd with a mark of 22.16m (72'8").
Hammer:
Kailey Leba threw 27.65m (90'8") to finish 14th in the hammer throw.
Whitney Porter placed 15th with a mark of 25.64m (84'1").
Javelin:
Kailey Leba placed 14th in the javelin with a throw of 28.59m (93'9"), while
Whitney Porter recorded a mark of 22.63m (74'3"), finishing in 21st place.
