WHITTIER, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz men's tennis team earned a convincing 7-0 sweep over the Whittier Poets on Friday afternoon. The Banana Slugs will be back in action tomorrow with a match against Caltech at 2:00 p.m.
How It Happened
The Banana Slugs fought hard to sweep doubles with
Benjamin Wang and
Rocco Melendez winning 6-4 at No. 1 while
Radin Sadeghi and
Mayur Nookala earned a 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Andrew Tjoa and
Arjun Tandon also earned a 7-5 victory at No. 3 doubles to finish the sweep of the doubles matches.
The Banana Slugs on dropped one set in the singles matches with
Hari Raghavan dropping the opening set of No. 3 singles before bouncing back to take two tightly contested sets 7-5 and 10-7 to pick up the win. The Slugs soared to victories in the remaining five matches with
Radin Sadeghi and
Andrew Tjoa highlighting the efforts with 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-3 wins respectively.
