Holland and Jaureguy Earn All-Region Honors as Slugs Take Fifth in West Region

CLAREMONT, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz men's cross country team earned a fifth place finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country West Region Championship hosted by Pomona-Pitzer on a Saturday morning that featured torrential downpours and muddy conditions throughout the course. The Banana Slugs saw All-Region performances (Top 35) out of Luke Holland and Camden Jaureguy with the duo both finishing in the top 15 at fourth and 12th, respectively. The Slugs finished with 149 team points, averaging a 26:07 as a time with all seven scorers placing inside the top 85.
 
In The Results
Luke Holland turned in a fourth place performance at this year's West Region Championships, running a 25:00.9, starting the race with the lead pack and staying in the mix throughout the 8k. Holland's performance was an improvement from his West Region race last year where he took ninth place overall. Camden Jaureguy was the Banana Slugs' second All-Region finisher on the day as he took 12th place with a time of 25:33.7. Jaureguy's performance was also a consistent effort from start to finish, sitting in 13th at the first 1.2k split before working his way to a 12th place finish. Graeme Maclean was the next Banana Slug to cross the line as he finished in 26:29.9 to take 39th overall. Diego Vizcarra and Sasha Tanasychuk rounded out the top five with the duo taking 48th and 55th in 26:41.5 and 26:47.5. Drew Mysliwiec took 66th for the Slugs after finishing the 8k in 26:55.3 while Liam Manley took 81st in 27:14.2.
