SUNNYVALE, Ca. – For the fifth straight season, the UC Santa Cruz men's cross country team delivered a dominant performance at the Coast-To-Coast Cross Country Conference Championship, recording 23 team points to win their fifth consecutive C2C Championship title with eight runners earn All-Conference honors.
Luke Holland highlighted the team's efforts for the second straight year, winning back to back individual titles with a 24:12.3 as the senior led the charge from start to finish.
How It Happened
On a cool morning at the Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, California, the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs set out for the five-peat and did not disappoint.
Luke Holland led from the gun and never looked back, pressured heavily by the Salisbury roster. As the race progressed, UCSC's pack closed the gap on the Sea Gulls, resulting in a 1-2 finish for the Slugs as
Luke Holland crossed in 24:12.3 to claim his second straight C2C individual crown with
Camden Jaureguy following closely behind for a second place finish in 24:38.7.
Diego Vizcarra also turned in a stellar top five finish, taking fourth with a 24:56.3.
Graeme Maclean also had a strong day, earning First Team All-C2C honors with a seventh place finish, crossing the finish line in 25:09.1.
The duo of
Sasha Tanasychuk and
Liam Manley were the next two Slugs to cross the finish line, taking ninth and 10th in 25:09.6 and 25:18.5.
Gilbert Fillat rounded out the top seven for UCSC with a 12th place finish in 25:27.2. The Banana Slugs also saw an All-Conference finish out of
Michael Lennox who took 14th with a time of 25:29.1.
The trio of
Drew Mysliwiec,
Ethan Vahle,
Gavin Hahn were the next Banana Slugs to finish the 8k, going 17-18-19 with times of 25:42.7, 25:44.2, and 25:46.2. UCSC's depth was on full display as
Desi Herrerias,
Viktor Kieturakis,
Sean Conley, and
Caeden Gardner all logged top 30 finishes with the group running 25:54.4, 25:57.2, 26:31.0, and 26:33.4 to round out the day for UC Santa Cruz.
Overall, the Banana Slugs averaged a 24:50 as a team with a total time of 2:04.06. Their 23 team points provided a comfortable cushion over second place Salisbury who ended with 51 points while CNU rounded out the podium with 70 points.
