Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Both tennis teams fall in C2C Semifinals

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Both the UC Santa Cruz women and men's tennis teams lost to Christopher Newport University in the Coast-To-Coast Tournament semifinals on Saturday.

The women lost their dual 5-0 while the men's team came down to the final match before falling 5-4. Both matches were played indoors at University of Mary Washington's Hegmann Family Tennis Center.

The women tried to mount a comeback after dropping the three doubles matches, but UC Santa Cruz ran out of time as straight-set losses gave the match to the Captains, leaving the matches UC Santa Cruz led in unfinished.

With a revamped lineup, the men finished the doubles matches trailing the Captains 2-1. However, Andre Mardirossian and Lucas Chen gave UC Santa Cruz a brief 3-2 lead with straight-set wins at No. 1 and 2 singles. This set up a dramatic end where it was tied at 4-4 going into the last match at No. 4. David Jackson won the key second set to force a third deciding set that the Captains eventually won to close an exciting day of tennis.

Ines Pelvang was named to the women's All Tournament team while Mardirossian made the men's team.

Both the men and women's teams from the University of Mary Washington won their finals on Sunday to claim the C2C's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
