Slugs Take Third and Fourth at West Region Championship with Seven All-Region Finishes

ESTACADA, Ore. – The UC Santa Cruz men's and women's cross country programs showed well at the NCAA West Region Cross Country Championship with the women finishing in third with 96 points while the men took fourth with 132 points. Kenzie Seymour led the charge on the women's side with a third place performance while Luke Holland led on the men's side with a ninth place performance. The Slugs brought in four All-Region honors on the women's side and three on the men's side for their top-35 finishes in both the 6k and 8k races. With the finish, the UC Santa Cruz cross country programs will wait to see if they will be headed to Indiana for the 2024 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships via an at-large bid.

The 2024 DIII men's and women's cross country selections will be released on Sunday, Nov. 17 on NCAA.com. 32 teams per gender will be selected for the championships. 10 on each side will automatically qualify (one per region, from regional championships) while the remaining 22 for each of the men's and women's championships will be picked at large.
 
Women's 6K
Kenzie Seymour and Helena Janku led the charge for the Banana Slugs as the duo took third and seventh overall, crossing the finish in 21:03.5 and 21:28.4, respectively. Hanna Hekkanen and Jordan Baden finished just one second apart to take 22nd and 23rd with Hekkanen a stride in front for a time of 21:56.7 while Baden crossed in 21:57.7. Sara Teitelbaum rounded out the top five finishers for UCSC with a 41st place finish, crossing the line in 22:45.8. Jordan Robinson took 59th overall with a time of 23:05.5 with Faith Dyogi running a 23:22.9 to round out the top seven finishers for the Slugs and cap off the third place finish at the NCAA Division III West Region Championship.
 
Men's 8k
Luke Holland continued to shine for UCSC as the junior led the way with a ninth place finish, crossing in 24:27.7. Eric Anderson followed closely behind, running a 24:37.5 to take 14th overall. Graeme Maclean wasn't far behind either as he took 18th with a time of 24:50.6 with the trio all averaging sub-five minute miles to earn the team's three All-Region honors. Camden Hebert and Camden Jaureguy took 45th and 49th to round out the top five performances with the duo running 25:29.5 and 25:39.4. Benthan Vu crossed the line in 26:00.8 to take 69th while Casey Orton ran a 26:42.5, good for 107th as UCSC finished the Regional Championships in fourth place overall.
