SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz men's and women's swim and dive team wrapped up the 2024 Slug Shootout on Saturday afternoon with strong performances on both sides as the men's team came away with a win, recording 908 points while the women's team took third with 719 points.
 
Men's Swim and Dive Highlights

• 200 Medley Relay: Asher Kates, Karsten Hsiao, Andrew Koika, and Kyle Reitan combined for a time of 1:35.97 to take third place.
• 500 Free: Massimo Reyna took third place after touching the wall in 4:49.14.
• 50 Back: Teo Truong, Tennyson Smith, Asher Kates, and Brandon Le took third through sixth with times of 25.14s, 25.15s, 25.19s, and 25.24s.
• 200 Fly: Kent Nishida led the Slugs in this event with a time of 1:57.80 to take fourth while the duo of Jude Robinson and Luke Scanlon took fifth and sixth with times of 1:58.91 and 1:59.64.
• 100 Free: Kyle Reitan earned the victory in the 100 free with a time of 46.56 seconds.
• 200 IM: Asher Kates took first in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 1:56.07, the only competitor under 1:58.50 in the field.
• 3m Dive: Charlie Shortt took second with 148.90 points.
• 50 Fly: Kyle Reitan and Andrew Koika took third and fourth after touching the wall in 23.56 seconds and 23.62 seconds.
• 200 Back: Asher Kates picked up his second victory of the day, touching the wall in 1:55.92 after dropping 1.09 seconds off his seed time while Teo Truong took third in 1:58.80.
• 200 Breast: Karsten Hsiao took third with a time of 2:10.98.
• 400 Free Relay: Kyle Reitan, Massimo Reyna, Andrew Koika, and Adam Sinclair combined for a time of 3:06.72 to win the event by just over two seconds.
• 1650 Free: Ido Haiby and Preston Golling took fourth and fifth in the mile with the duo touching the wall in 17:39.96 and 17:52.38 to round out the final day of competition at the Slug Shootout.

 
Women's Swim and Dive Highlights

• 200 Medley Relay: Maddy Gruender, Lily Wolfinger, Fiona Lei, and Phoebe Jaggers combined for a time of 1:51.15 to take fourth place.
• 50 Back: Kaitlyn Armstrong took sixth overall with a time of 28.58 seconds.
• 50 Breast: Lily Wolfinger dropped .41 seconds from their seed time to take fourth after touching the wall in 31.94 seconds.
• 200 IM: Wolfinger, Gretta Bellin, and Kirsten Boyle took fourth through sixth with the trio touching the wall in 2:14.18, 2:14.41, and 2:14.79.
• 3m Dive: Briseis Valenzuela took second after earning 191.90 points.
• 50 Fly: Fiona Lei took fifth with a time of 27.26 seconds.
• 200 Back: Maddy Gruender took second overall after a 2:09.58 performance in the event.
• 200 Breast: Kirsten Boyle took fourth with a time of 2:28.62 while Lily Wolfinger took fifth in 2:28.99.
• 400 Free Relay: Tereza Shea, Phoebe Jaggers, Maddy Gruender, and Katy Hawk took third overall as the team combined for a time of 3:37.17.
• 1650 Free: Piper Stickler, Erin Gidley, and Honour Dufresne rounded out Slug Shootout with fourth, fifth, and sixth place finishes with the trio touching the wall in 19:50.82, 18:57.59, and 19:01.02.
