Slugs defeat Dominican University

UC Santa Cruz Women's Volleyball team wins their match against Dominican University!  The Slugs won in three sets with the following scores 25-22, 25-19, 25-20.  

Junior Outside Hitter Katherine Grow led the team with 12 kills (.378 pct) followed by Junior Middle Blocker Ginger Berryman with 11 kills, no errors (.786 pct).  Junior Middle Blocker Helen Milne totaled 8 kills, no errors (.615 pct) and 3 blocks.  Freshman Outside Hitter Kim Rabii lead the defense with 24 digs.  Sophomore Setter Jessica Peng contributed 47 assists on the match!

The Slugs offense came out firing and they managed to control the momentum of the game with impressive hitting (.532 team avg pct) and spectacular defense (79 digs, 7.5 blocks).  Consistent first ball side-outs allowed UCSC to protect its lead and limited run opportunities for the opponent.

This upcoming weekend, the Slugs travel to La Verne, CA to play in the La Verne University Tournament.  Their first match is against Chapman University on Friday Oct. 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.  The second match of the day will be against Principia College at 5:00 p.m.
