January 19, 2010 Rowell's Stellar Play Keys UC Santa Cruz to Two Big Victories
SANTA CRUZ, CA–Eric Rowell, a 6-2 senior setter for then-No. 3 UC Santa Cruz, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week for his efforts in leading his squad to a pair of victories last week. Rowell kicked things off by helping UCSC to a sweep of then-No. 2 Springfield, registering 42 assists, six digs, five blocks and two kills in the win. (more)

SANTA CRUZ, CA–The AVCA Division III Mens Coaches Top 15 Poll ranked UC Santa Cruz men's volleyball as #2 Natinoally. The Slugs moved up one spot after a strong 2-0 performance over the weekend. On Friday, the team took down NCAA DIII Springfield College, at the time ranked #2, and then defeated NAIA preseason #1 California Baptist on Saturday. (more)

December 30, 2009 2nd Half Collapse Dooms Slugs
ROCKLIN, CA--For the first 25 minutes UCSC was executing excellently on both ends of the floor, the Slugs held a 40-25 advantage with just under 16 minutes left in 2nd half when the momentum swung. December 20, 2009 Slugs Take 2 at Cal Lu Classic
THOUSAND OAKS, CA--In the opening night of the Cal Lutheran Classic UCSC matched up with the hosts Cal Lutheran University. The first half opened with the Slugs jumping to a quick 7-0 lead, a few minutes later they had a 20-8 advantage and looked in control. WALLA WALLA, WA--The state of Washington has not been kind to UCSC Men’s Hoops. On Friday the trend continued as the Slugs faced off vs. no.18 ranked Puget Sound at the UPS Tip-Off Classic. SANTA CRUZ, CA--It was another tough weekend for UCSC Women’s Volleyball facing #14 ranked Colorado College on their home court in Colorado Springs. October 18, 2009 Slugs Win Streak Ends at Cal Lutheran
SANTA CRUZ, CA--The UCSC Women’s Volleyball team faced tough competition this weekend against four top teams in the SCIAC (Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) at the Cal Lutheran tournament. First up was nationally ranked and host school, Cal Lutheran. The Slugs were leading the first set until 20-15 when the Regals fought back to win 25-23 on a 10-3 run. (more)

SANTA CRUZ, CA--The Lady Slugs were welcomed into Seguin, Texas for the Lady Bulldog Classic by a series of lighting storms that charged up the mighty slugs to shock the field with poise and skill. September 27, 2009 UCSC Women’s Volleyball Team Goes 4-1 For the Week
SANTA CRUZ, CA -It was a big week for the Slugs starting out against 2008 CalPac Conference Champs, Menlo College on Wednesday, September 23rd. UCSC started out slow dropping the first two games 19-25, 18-25 only to rally back to win the next two sets 25-14, 25-19 to force the fifth and final game. The Slugs were down in the fifth game until 9-13 when they came back with an exciting 6 point run to win the match 15-13 with Senior Libero Dana Johnson serving. (more)

September 20, 2009 Slugs Go 3-0 Against CalPac Teams This Week
SANTA CRUZ, CA --On Wednesday, September 16th, UCSC traveled to Scotts Valley to face cross-town rival, Bethany University. Despite a raucous crowd, the Slugs came out hot taking the first set 25-16. Bethany retaliated and got an early lead in the second set but after a huge comeback from UCSC, the Bruins were defeated 25-22. The third set was another impressive come from behind win into extra points finishing at 30-28 for the Slugs. It was Senior Opposite Jen Meyers who led the Slugs offense with 10 kills, only one error on 18 attempts, hitting an impressive .500 for the match. (more)

Senior Setter Amy Knight did a great job of running the offense evenly spreading out the kills between hitters Katie English (7 kills), Jackie McCrory (6 kills), Ginger Berryman (5 kills), Lauren Nixon (5 kills), Roxy White (5 kills)and Jen Meyers (4 kills). SANTA CRUZ, CA-- Friday’s match-up in Santa Cruz had the Lancers from California Baptist University come to town to face the unbeaten Slugs of UC Santa Cruz. The Slugs with an overtime win just a day previous against Concordia University had improved their record to 6-0-1, while the Lancers came in 1-1-3 in a tough NAIA conference.(more)

SANTA CRUZ, CA-Thursday’s game for the Slug Men’s Soccer Program brought a talented NAIA team from southern California, Concordia University. Concordia was ranked number 9 in the nation in the NAIA national polls while UCSC was ranked number 7 in the nation according to the NSCAA National D3 rankings. September 14, 2009 UCSC Slugs Are Starting Off Strong
IRVINE, CA--The Women's Cross Country team traveled down south Saturday to race in the UC Irvine Invite, finishing 4th out of 11 teams in the Women's "B" race. The team scored 95 points, one point ahead of 5th place DIII West Region team Pomona Pitzer. Things looked a little different up front for the Slugs on Saturday; junior standout Mikayla Murphy ran on her own in the "A" race, comprised of mostly Division I schools. (more)

September 12, 2009 Bulldogs Get Slimed
SANTA CRUZ, CA --Saturday afternoon saw the clash of two classic west coast rivals between the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs and longtime rivals the Bulldogs from the University of Redlands. This game did not disappoint in any sense of the word. Right from the opening 5 minutes Redlands got on the board their first trip down the field with a breakaway goal from Jeff Willey assisted by Nick Gundersen in the 3rd minute. However, the lead only lasted 30 seconds when the hometown Slugs came right back down the field and scored an equalizer by CJ Villalobos from Fernando Otero. (more)
September 11, 2009 UC Santa Cruz Beats Linfield, 3-1
SANTA CRUZ, CA--Matt Fondy scored his first goal of the 2009 season off of a corner kick from teammate Cody Pillon on Friday. The Slugs came out strong against the visiting Linfield College of McMinville OR, scoring in just the 8th minute of play after already hitting the goalpost twice. Linfield College answered with an equalizing goal in the 37th minute off a free kick header from Carter Elhabbassi to make the game more interesting. However the tie was short lived when Daniel Seltzer scored his 2nd goal of the year unassisted in the 39th minute to go ahead of Wildcats 2-1. (more)
