SANTA CRUZ, CA– UC Santa Cruz student athlete Sarah Mackey
(Placerville, CA.) has been recognized by D3hoops.com as
the West Region "Rookie of the Year" and All-West Region
Mackey led University of California Santa Cruz in scoring
(13.8 points per game), rebounding (9.0 rebounds per game),
and field-goal percentage (48.6). Her two triple doubles
led the country and she was tied for 4th in the Nation in
blocked shots (4.3 blocks per game).
The 6-1" Mackey, also a Division III All-Independent
selection, set new UC Santa Cruz Women's Basketball
individual season records in total rebounds (226), blocked
shots (107) and single game blocked shots (10). Her 346
points places her third-highest on the Slugs seasonal
ladder while her scoring average ranked fourth. After one
season of action, Mackey already stands first all-time at
the University for career totals in blocked shots.
Mackey is the first UC Santa Cruz women's basketball player
to garner All-West Region honors and also the first to be
named Rookie of the Year.
