Sports Imports/AVCA Men’s Division III National Player of the Week - Sal Ls Cavera III

Sal La Cavera III, a 6-1 senior outside hitter for No. 5 UC Santa Cruz, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week.  Led by La Cavera, the Banana Slugs had a great weekend claiming four total victories against then-No. 10 Stevenson and then-No. 8 NYU, winning all of them in straight sets.  After accumulating 17 combined kills and nine digs hitting nearly .500, the senior turned it up in the following day's doubleheader.  In his matches against Stevenson and NYU on Saturday, he smashed 17 kills in each match with 11 combined digs while hitting .441 and .448, respectively.  This is the sixth time a UC Santa Cruz player has been named a Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, with the most recent honor coming from Justin Lam on February 16, 2010.  The Banana Slugs are coached by Todd Hollenbeck.
