Slugs edged out in their second match against Concordia University

IRVINE, CA -- UC Santa Cruz Men's Volleyball was defeated by the the Concordia Eagles.  The Slugs lost in five sets with the following scores: 25-18, 20-25, 24-26, 25-20, 7-15.

Senior Outside Hitter Salvatore LaCavera led the team with 16 kills (0.245 pct) followed by Junior Outside Hitter Jake Landel with 15 kills (0.237 pct).  Senior Setter Kevin Crosby contributed 36 assists on the match.

UCSC begin the match with an explosive start in the first set by taking a big lead over the Eagles.  Key hitting by Junior Outside Hitter Jake Landel allowed the Slugs to control the tempo of the game.  Concordia bounced back in the second set with strong attacking, managing to best the UCSC block.  After a close loss in the third set, the Slugs showed their strength as a program through their resilient comeback led by strong defensive digs from the back-court.  In the final set, tough serving by the Eagles put the Slugs down early and ultimately sealed the match.

This loss brings their overall record to 021 (0-0 D-III, 0-0 CVC).

The Slugs head to Palo Alto, CA to play Stanford University on Friday, January 11 at 7:00 PM.
