In the summer of 2018, Shawn Gallup was hired as the Associate Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at UC Santa Cruz after serving as an assistant coach during the 2017-2018 season.
“Shawn played an important role in the continued development and expansion of the UC Sanata Cruz and Cross Country programs. I’m excited for him to serve in his new role and to continue to develop a top Division 3 program on the West Coast,” said Head Coach David Klech. “Shawn’s ability to connect and empower our men’s and women’s student-athlete is a key skill that will allow us to continue to excel in years to come.”
He ran Track and cross country in high school in Pacific Grove and Mililani, HI. While in Hawai'i he won the state championship for 3200 and set School records for 1600 and 3200.
Shawn is a Certified USATF Level 1 Coach. He has previously coached at Monterey Peninsula College and University of West Florida. Shawn hold a B.S. in Sports medicine with emphasis in athletic training from West Florida, where he was a 4-year letterwinner on a cross country scholarship.
Shawn for several years has been active in Triathlon, from sprint distance to Ironman.
