Men's Cross Country finishes 22nd in Nation
LOUISVILLE (11-23) Making the field for the second time in program history, UC Santa Cruz earned a 22nd place team finish at the Division III Cross Country Championships.
The Banana Slugs improved by four places from their 2017 debut, collecting 562 points.
Senior Paul Colosi finished 72nd in 25:16.7. Running on the same course he finished 261st at Nationals as a freshman, Colosi concludes his UCSC career leading their best team finish ever.
Freshman Hayden Johnson was next across, finishing 77th in 25:18.5. Kellen O'Neill was 124th in 25:36.5, it was 46 seconds and 111 places better than his championships debut two years ago as a freshman. Another returner from the 2017 team, Nick Kleiber, was 212th in 26:11.2.
Rounding out the UCSC contingent were debutants Robert Udell (230th, 26:20.7), Walter Teitelbaum (252nd, 26:36.5) and Pablo Cortes (266th, 27:05.1).
West Region Champ Pomona-Pitzer became the first West Coast National Champion in 42 years with 164 points, edging defending champ North Central by 18 points.
