Cross Country men fifth, women ninth in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO - The men's and women's cross country teams competed against a slew of West Coast Division II and NAIA teams at the San Francisco State Invitational.

Running through gorgeous Golden Gate Park, the youthful Banana Slug women placed 9th out of 12 teams in the 6K run. Freshmen Nadia Perez ran a 24:50.06 and Melissa Carrillo ran a 24:57.06 to place 58th and 60th respectively. Sanjana Raman (25:10.47) placed 65th, Abby Twoy was 71st (25:35.38), Victoria Mitchell was 80th (26:45.08) and Sasaiya Robles was 83rd (27:22.2). 

On the men's side, UCSC placed 5th overall in the 8K. Will Daschbach led the Slugs with a time of 27:05.43 to finish 30th. Walter Teitelbaum was 36th in 27:16.94 and Sagan Svoboda was 45th in 27:40.05.

Mateo Ramirez led the second pack of runners, placing 51st in 27:58.46. Finishing up were Banana Slugs in 55th, 56th and 57th place as Harmen Kang (28:08.06), Ethan West (28:12.16) and Leo Merle (28:13.16) crossed the finish line one after the other.

Biola and Academy of Art finished 1-2 in both the men's and women's team competition.
