Balanced offense leads volleyball to sweep at Mills

OAKLAND (10-24) UC Santa Cruz (13-13, 2-0 ACAA) dominated the game and swept hosts Mills College (2-13, 0-2 ACAA) for the second time this season (25-14, 25-6, 25-3).

To finish up their last regular season away game, the Slugs pulled together to get away from the initial close first set with the Cyclones. With only a 6-5 lead at the start, the match looked like Mills could compete with the Banana Slugs. But two kills and an Alana Susbilla service ace later, UCSC had a 4-point lead that they would keep and build on throughout the set, finishing 25-14 on a kill by Isabella Hoglund

For the second and third sets, the Slugs had one thing on their mind: getting a win to go into Senior Night.

UCSC hit .571 and .381 the last two sets, while holding Mills to a single kill to earn the victory.

The statistics sheets are overflowing with UCSC players. Maiya Sears had a game-high 8 kills, Gio Martins had a season-high 6 and Alexandria Everett and Timolin Kepon each had 5 kills. Susbilla had 21 assists to surpass the 1300 mark (1320) for her career total. Cassie Nickel added 15 digs and Kepon had 5 aces.

Tomorrow night is Senior Night for the Slugs. Their match against the Academy of Art will begin at 7 p.m. in the West Field House.
