The UC Santa Cruz women's volleyball team reloaded for 2019 with three heralded freshmen set to join the Banana Slugs this fall.
"I have a great feeling about the 2019 season and am very excited about our incoming freshman class," said second-year head coach Gabrielle Houston. "We have 13 returners and a solid foundation that we have worked hard to build in the last year. The incoming freshmen will complete our team and fill in some key positions. I am really looking forward to what is to come and know their contribution will help take this program to the next level."
"It is great timing for the program to also be accepted into the ACAA conference, where we will now have an opportunity to compete in the post-season." Houston added.
The incoming class of 2023 includes:
|Grace Pessagno, Middle, Vacaville, CA (WC Wood HS/Xceleration VBC)|
Grace joins the Slugs from Will C. Wood HS in Vacaville. A six-footer, Grace hit .310 her senior year leading the Wildcats to the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.
Grace says "I'm very excited to become a Banana Slug and I can't wait to meet my new teammates! I'm super happy to have this opportunity to be able to do what I love at my dream school. Go Slugs!"
|Ryleigh Hogland, Setter, Truckee, CA (Truckee HS/Northern Nevada Juniors)|
An all-purpose player, Ryleigh had 84 aces and 457 assists to go with 234 kills her senior year as Truckee made the Nevada State Finals.
Ryleigh says "In UC Santa Cruz, I think I have found my perfect match - location, volleyball and academics. I couldn't be more excited!"

In her senior year for the Lowell Cardinals, Beaupain was a First Team All-City setter, captaining the school to the CIF Division III State Championships. She competed with the U-17 Beach Vibes Club at the 2017 AAU Junior Nationals.
The Banana Slugs open the season August 30 when they host the Slugfest Tournament at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
