Maya Gonzales tallied her first career hattrick and seven other players had a goal as UC Santa Cruz defeated Mills College 12-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
UC Santa Cruz improved to 7-1-2, running their unbeaten streak to nine games with their fifth-straight shutout.
It took about 13 minutes for the Banana Slugs to break down the Cyclone defense, finally getting on the board when Julia Hernandez finished a pass from Sophia Makarem. It was up to 4-0 12 minutes later when substitute Gonzales knocked in her first, and she scored her third goal eight seconds before the end of the half to make it 8-0 for UCSC at the break.
The Banana Slugs eventually finished with a 55-0 shot advantage and 16-0 edge in corner kicks. Mills goalkeeper Anais Uriarte finished with 20 saves.
UCSC plays Division II Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday afternoon at the Lower East Field.
