ATHERTON - UC Santa Cruz had a 19-5 shot advantage and the bulk of possession, but left it late to grab a thrilling 1-0 win at Menlo College on Saturday.
Amelia Streiffer's 87th minute goal proved to be the game winner as the Banana Slugs won their third 1-0 game of the year- all road wins with the goal coming in the last ten minutes.
UCSC improves to 5-1-1, their best start since 2013. The Oaks went to 2-3-1.
The Oaks had two shots on goal in the first half that forced Alyssa Diaz-Tucker into some saves, but the second half was all UCSC, with the Slugs coming close on multiple occasions but the Oaks holding on.
With overtime looming, Tea Lopes got free on the left flank, cut inside and delivered a low cross that Streiffer met perfectly for the game's only score.
The Banana Slugs had an 11-2 shot advantage in the second half, when Menlo goalkeeper Michelle Gonzalez having four of her ten total saves on the day.
UCSC plays a pair of Division II schools next, starting with a trip to Dominican on Tuesday.
