UC Santa Cruz outshot Simpson 25-1, including 19-1 on shots on goal to defeat the Redhawks 10-0 Tuesday morning in Santa Cruz.
UCSC improves to 4-1-1 with their third-straight win, while Simpson drops to 2-3.
It took a little over nine minutes to score for UCSC. Peyton Bell finished at the near post after a weaving 15-yard run to make it 1-0. Six minutes later, Amelia Streiffer doubled UCSC"s lead on an open tap in at the right post after Julia Hernandez's corner. Fellow junior Tomiko Hoshijima made it 3-0 a minute later before Streiffer added her second a minute after that.
Substitute Jamie Floyd made it 6-0 at halftime with a pair of goals.
After halftime, it was the freshmen's turn to score. Samantha Scarlett, Celine Ertekin and Chella Grattet all scored their first goals as Banana Slugs, while Karina Bulli scored for the second-straight game on a putback after Fiona Nielsen's free kick was parried away at the post. Grattet closed out scoring in the 90th minute with a 28-yard blast to the upper right of the net. Substitute goalie Malia Starita easily covered Simpson's only shot of the game: a free kick by Sandy Lule in the 76th minute.
The Banana Slugs open a two-game road trip next, starting Saturday afternoon at Menlo College.
