ATHERTON (9-22) – The Banana Slugs hit the road on Saturday for the first of two away matches as they took on NAIA opponent Menlo College in Atherton. The Oaks used a second half goal to defeat the Banana Slugs 3-2.
With 29:30 left in the first half, the Banana Slugs would get on the scoreboard first when Izel Gutierrez scored to give the Banana Slugs a 1-0 lead. Almost sixteen minutes of clock time later, the Oaks would score the equalizer off the foot of Kori-Ann Koverman to tie the match at 1-1. With 11:15 left, the Oaks would take the lead, at 2-1, on a rebound goal by Lilly Chisler. The Oaks led 2-1 at the halftime break.
In the second half, the Oaks would widen their lead. With 39:21 left, Caitlin Sorensen would score off a pass from Jasmine Sepulveda to stretch the Oaks' lead to 3-1. Just over two minutes later, the Banana Slugs scored on a Cayce Shaw goal to trim the Oaks' lead to 3-2. The final chance to score in the match for the Banana Slugs came with 3:20 left off the foot of Shaw but her shot went just high of the frame.
Shaw had six shots to lead the Banana Slugs while for Menlo, Koverman had a match high seven shots.
The Banana Slugs will finish up their road trip Monday as they take on Mills College in Oakland. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm.
