Big second round helps Slugs Secure Fourth Place in Final Fall Tournament

Canby, Oregon - UC Santa Cruz finished day two of the Culturame Classic Tournament, progressing from fifth on day one to fourth overall out of the eight schools. 

Mara Anunciacion placed 19th with a total of 22-over-166, barely ahead of teammate Gillian Mendoza who tied for 20th (167). Anunciacion shot a 2-over-76 her second round on Sunday.

"Today, Mara's concentration after a missed shot was focused on the positive and that is what made the difference on her way to a great 76 today," said head coach Paulette Pera.

Sophomore Claire Oetinger and freshman Riley Birch tied for 26th and 28th respectively, shooting a combined 172 and 174. Sarah Donovan was 34th, with an overall score of 177. As a team, the Slugs shot a two-day score of 675 (345-330), and had 8 birdies. 

Host George Fox won the tournament with a total of 610, slightly beating Pomona-Pitzer's score of 615. Rachel Drgastin of George Fox came in first with a score of six-over-150, having the edge over Pomona-Pitzer's Stephanie Yu (151). 

The Slugs ended their Fall season on a high note and will continue their season in the Spring of 2020, hosting a tournament of their own.
