Women's Golf finishes sixth in first invite of 2018-19

SEGUIN, TX - UC Santa Cruz took nine total strokes off its first round score to place 6th at the Lady Bulldog Fall Classic hosted by Texas Lutheran University.

The Banana Slugs shot a combined 347 on Tuesday for a two-day score of 703.

UCSC was led by freshmen Claire Oetinger and Mara Anunciacion, who both shot a 167 (+23) in their first action of their college careers. The duo tied for 12th place, finishing eleven strokes behind medalist Kendalyn Ferguson of McMurray.

Freshman Dana Bryant finished 24th with a score of 177(+33). Sophomores Kylie Edwards(192,+48) and Sarah Shi (193,+49) improved by ten and nine strokes respectively from their first round scores to finish 36th and 37th overall.

"Our freshmen really led the way," said head coach Paulette Pera. "We improved by 21 strokes but unfortunately couldn't make up any ground. We did however do much better than last year on the same course."

Trinity won the Invite's team title by 16 strokes over second-placed Mary Hardin-Baylor.

UCSC next competes in next week's California State Intercollegiate in Ventura County.
