PASADENA, CA (11-23) - Ashley Kowack tied a career-high with 28 points as UC Santa Cruz ended their road trip with a 74-50 wire-to-wire win at Caltech.
UCSC (2-4) hit a season-high 12-34 from three-point range against the Beavers, who fell to 0-3.
The Banana Slugs opened a quick 17-5 lead in the first 6:45 of the game, helped by a pair of threes from Kowack and one each from CJ Catina and Emily Mitchell. The visitors led 21-7 at the end of the first, and led by 20 with 4:50 left before the hosts closed with a 16-5 run to cut the UCSC lead to 37-28 at halftime.
UCSC used a 23-10 third quarter to push their lead to 60-38 entering the fourth quarter. Another Kowack three made the lead 64-40 and Amanda Inserra's putback layup with under 4 minutes left gave UCSC their biggest lead at 74-46.
Kowack went 11-18 from the field, including 4-10 for threes. Kaylee Murphy had 8 points with a team-high 14 rebounds. Mitchell and Inserra added 8 each off the bench. Mitchell also had four steals and five assists.
Sahana Saikumar led the Beavers with 19 points. Grace Peng scored 18 while playing all 40 minutes.
UCSC returns home for their Thanksgiving Classic next weekend, beginning Friday against Wheaton (Ill.).
