    Behind Sarah Mackey’s 33 points and a strong second half defense, the Slugs rallied from 17 points down to defeat the La Verne Leopards 104-97. The Slug stat line reads as follows –committed 26 turnovers, allowed 16 3 point shots, and gave up 62 first half points and 97 total points.

    UC Santa Cruz travel to LA to face two tough teams, played two nearly identical games and left town with two nearly identical results losing 54-48 on Friday night to Redlands and 68-58 on Saturday.
  • Ortiz Lead Slugs back from the Brink

    Ryane Ortiz poured in 16 second half points to lead a UC Santa Cruz comeback from an 18 point first half time deficit to defeat Cal State Maritime 68-61. The Slugs, who may have underestimated the 2-15 Keelhaulers, struggled in the first half.

    Behind 23 points from Ryane Ortiz and 14 rebounds from Leah Parrish, UC Santa Cruz outlasted Occidental College 63-62. The smaller Slugs out rebounded the Tigers 50-34 and were in control most of the way.

    UC Santa Cruz women’s basketball coach Todd Kent has announced the 2016 recruiting class who will play for the Slugs beginning in the fall of 2012. The class consists of four excellent student-athletes, including Lashay Alexander, Trina Torres, Amanda Spence, and Ashley Holmes.
  • Slugs Cruise Past Pioneers

    The UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs ran their win streak to five games with a 73-42 win over the Pacific Union Pioneers behind sharp three point shooting, dominant inside play and stifling team defense. The Slugs rained 3’s on the Pioneers throughout the game as six different players scored from beyond the arc lead by Ortiz (9pts) and Mofsowitz (13pts) with three each.

    UC Santa Cruz student athlete Sarah Mackey has been recognized by D3hoops.com for her outstanding performance on the basketball court this past week. Mackey has been named to the website’s “Team of the Week” which recognizes the top performance at each of the five positions from the previous week.
  • Slugs Fall To Pacific Lutheran

    Pacific Lutheran was on fire this evening when it stepped on the court to face UC Santa Cruz in a non-conference women's basketball game in Olson Auditorium. The Lutes came out on top, 62-53, in their season opener.
