NEW ORLEANS – UC Santa Cruz student-athletes Paul Colosi, Shannon McClish, Conrad Pereira and Mason Pierce were on Monday named 2019 Division III All-Academic Individuals by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association for the 2019 Outdoor Track and Field season.
Pierce, a Pole Vaulter, won an All-Academic award for the second consecutive year, while distance runners Colosi and McClish repeated their All-Academic honors earned from last fall's Cross Country season.
The duo set both the men's and women's school records in the 10,000 meters this past spring, with McClish finishing 10th in the country at the NCAA Championships in May.
Pereira, the only first-time winner, debuted in the Decathlon this year and set the school record of 6,102 points at Azusa Pacific on the last day of the season.
In addition, both the men's and women's teams received Division III Academic Team Awards for their classroom success. It's the fourth time in the last five years UCSC's women were honored and the third time in four years for the men.
"Anytime we can celebrate our student-athletes accomplishments is an honor," said head coach David Klech. "Recognizing Shannon, Paul, Conrad, and Mason for their stellar performance both on the track and in the classroom exemplifies what we set out to achieve at Santa Cruz. I'm incredibly proud of both our Men's and Women's programs as a whole also being recognized."
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have either competed in a NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event.
