UNION, N.J. - UC Santa Cruz continues their awesome April when they face second-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology in the NCAA Semifinals.
The other semifinal features defending champ Springfield against SUNY New Paltz.
The Slugs and Ducks have met nine times in history, with the Slugs holding a 6-3 advantage. The only postseason meeting was at the 2009 Molten Invitational, a 3-0 Stevens win. The last meeting was in January 2017, also a Stevens 3-0 win.
Stevens enters the contest at 28-5 and were the national runners-up last season. They won their quarterfinal game 3-2 against NCAA-debutant Wells College Saturday night. They are led by three-time All American David Lehman, who is hitting .319 with 3.95 kills and 0.66 blocks per set. Jack Fyda is hitting .273 with a team-high of 36 aces this season.
Banana Slug senior Justin Fortner leads UCSC with a .343 hitting percentage and 0.93 blocks/set. Captain Raymond Cascio, who was named a First team All American on Monday, averages 3.87 kills and 0.89 blocks per set with a .318 hitting percentage. Sam Wittert averages 6.99 assists/set.
UC Santa Cruz will be hosting a watch party at Rachel Carson's Red Room lounge, across the plaza from the West Field House. Free to all to attend.
