Behind Raymond Cascio's 21 kills, UC Santa Cruz earned a 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 16-25, 25-20) Senior Night victory over #14 Cal Lutheran before a raucous crowd at the West Field House.
UCSC finishes the regular season 18-16 while the Kingsmen dropped to 14-10.
After UCSC won the first two close sets, Cal Lutheran ran off a 10-3 run midway through set three to take a 17-8 lead and held off UCSC's comeback attempts to take the set and push the match to a fourth set.
The Banana Slugs however opened set four with an 8-2 run, thanks to four huge blocks, forcing the visitors to take a time out. Cal Lutheran rallied and came within three at 14-11, but UCSC went on a 7-2 run to make it 21-13 and finished the match on a block from Cascio and Jacob Shapiro to win the match.
UCSC outhit CLU .285 to .239 and out blocked the Kingsmen 12-9 to garner their sixth-straight win. Cascio had a team-high 10 digs. Freshman Aaron Fox tied his season high with 12 kills and Sam Wittert had a season-high 52 assists. Shapiro led the defense with seven total blocks.
Andrew Reina had 14 kills and 9 digs for the Kingsmen, while Patrick Rowe and Justin Dietrich each had eight kills.
