Men's Volleyball to host annual Slug Slam Saturday and Sunday

Coming off the most wins in school history, the UC Santa Cruz Men's Volleyball team opens their home schedule this weekend when they host their annual Slug Slam tournament.

The Banana Slugs, who opened the season last weekend at Stanford, are ranked ninth in the preseason AVCA Division III volleyball poll. UCSC returns three starters from last year's 26-10 team (Justin Fortner, Kyle Donohoe, and Raymond Cascio) and welcome a heralded class of freshmen. UCSC welcomes five Division III opponents to Kaiser Permanente Arena. It's the second-straight year the tournament will be played at the downtown home of the Santa Cruz Warriors.

Other teams include Cal Lutheran, who are ranked eighth in the AVCA poll coming off their best-ever season in 2018.

From the Midwest come Marian (13-15 in 2018) and North Central College (17-8 last year). Coming from the East Coast in fifth-ranked SUNY New Paltz, who went 19-9 last season.

Slug Slam Day Two opens with a standalone game as Arcadia (PA) plays the Slugs. The main event is a top-ten matchup on Sunday evening between the Banana Slugs and New Paltz.

All ten matches will be streamed live on the UCSC Athletics YouTube channel.
