VENTURA - All-American Chad Le Duff had a busy Friday, advancing to both the singles and doubles Division III quarterfinals at the Ojai Tournament to highlight UCSC's day.
Seeded third in singles, Le Duff defeated Occidental's Lucas Chmielewski 6-2, 6-1 in Round One before outlasting Claremont-Mudd's Julian Gordy 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in the Round of 16. Le Duff faces Yahn Gawrit of Cal Lutheran Saturday morning at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club.
In the Independent Singles bracket which included players from NAIA schools, Ryan Gee beat Chase Brannen of Marymount in an exciting 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 match to reach the quarterfinals. David Jackson won another UCSC-Marymount matchup 6-3, 6-3 over Adi Kahn. Jackson will take on Antoine Voisin of Hope International in his quarterfinal.
Le Duff and partner Ryan Dugan, who were seeded fourth in doubles, finished the day by advancing 8-3 over Caltech duo Zixhao Li and Derik Nguyen. They will face Alexis Dimanche and Dean Dulthummon of Southwestern at noon Saturday.
In other Division III doubles action, Gee and Kris Harris fell 8-4 to Chmielewski and Cameron Coe.
