Men's soccer finishes in scoreless tie with La Verne

SANTA CRUZ - 110 minutes was not enough time to find a winner between UC Santa Cruz and La Verne, as the soccer game finished in a 0-0 tie.

UCSC (5-9-1) returned home for the first time in a month and had a 28-16 shot advantage and a 9-6 corner advantage, but could not put one past the resilient Leopards (7-9-1).

La Verne's best chance was a blast by Johnny De Rueda with 11:20 left in regulation but it was saved by substitute goalkeeper Andrew Pimentel.

In overtime, the Slugs almost ended it early two minutes in, but senior Amr Makhamreh had his dipping free kick pushed away by Leopard goalie Rene Gonzalez.

Lukas Holocher finished with a team-high eight shots and had UCSC's last shot of the match in overtime, but his breakaway shot with under 3 minutes left went high and grazed the cross bar.

Pimentel finished with seven saves in relief. Rene Gonzalez had eight saves for the Leopards.

UCSC finishes the year with Senior Day matchup Thursday November 1st at home against first-time opponent Sierra Nevada College.
