SAN RAFAEL (9-12) – The Banana Slugs hit the road to take on NCAA Division II opponent Dominican University (CA). The Penguins scored a goal in each half and defeated the Banana Slugs 2-1.
The loss drops the Banana Slugs to 1-4 on the season.
In the first half, the half was played equally in each team's offensive zone. Dominican had a 5-4 advantage in shots.
The last chance for the Banana Slugs to score in the half came with 6:39 left off the foot of Cole Fox but his shot went just high. With 4:39 left, the Penguins struck first on a Cameron Baca goal off a Matt Case throw in. The Penguins led 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Penguins would strike first. With 28:20 left, Luke Raley scored on a shot from the top of the box to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead. The Banana Slugs would get on the scoreboard with 1:51 left on an Ari Statler header after a pass from Jacob Myers Norys.
Three players had two shots apiece to lead the Banana Slugs while for Dominican, Raley had a match-high four shots. William Finnie got the win for the Penguins and Zachary Lamb got the loss for the Banana Slugs. The Penguins outshot the Banana Slugs 11-10. The match yielded twenty five fouls and seven yellow cards between the two teams combined.
The Banana Slugs will return home for two matches. The Banana Slugs will take on NCAA Division II opponent Fresno Pacific University on Saturday at 2:30 pm.
