PORTLAND - UC Santa Cruz's men's basketball bid adieu to 2018 and a four-game losing streak with a 93-62 win at Portland Bible to improve to 7-10.
The Banana Slugs shot 57.6% (34-59) from the field, including 72.4% (21-29) in the second half. UCSC held a 44-31 rebounding edge over the Wildcats. Building on a 34-25 lead, the Banana Slugs finished the game on a 21-2 run for the win.
Sam Gabbard led The Slugs with 24 points and 13 rebounds, his third-straight double-double. Gabbard tied former teammate Jared Ponce (2013-16) for sixth place on the school career scoring chart with 1,082 points. Tyler Klingenbeck had a double-double as well with 12 points and 10 rebounds in his second-straight start after missing four weeks with injury. Will Crain added 19 points and Simon Mueller-Landsvik had a season-high 15 points off the bench.
Moses McEwen led the Wildcats with 15 points.
After playing 12 consecutive games on the road, UCSC returns home on Friday when they play the University of Los Angeles 7:00 pm at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
