Preview for game vs. Menlo College December 10

The first home game of the 2011-12 season is against the Menlo College Oaks. The Acorns are currently 2-8 with victories over Johnson and Wales and Academy of the Arts. Cal Pac Player of the week, Tim Tatum is leading the Oaks in scoring and rebounding. The 6’6 senior from Vacaville is averaging 16.6 points and 7 rebounds a game. He dropped in a season high of 29 against Academy of the Arts in the December 2 victory. ChaRunn Jones, just returning to the starting line up, is averaging 13.6 points a game. Andrew Young, a 6’6 senior forward from Jesuit High School in Sacramento leads the team with 3.9 assists per game while scoring 9.2 points a game. The Slugs currently stand at 2-5 after finishing fourth at the 64th Annual Lee Fulmer Tournament in Redlands. Senior Brent Jacobs earned All Tournament honors. The 6’5 senior from Scripps High School in San Diego is averaging 10.4 points per game and already has 13 blocks this season including 5 against Chapman in the loss on December 3. Sam Allen leads Santa Cruz in scoring with 13.1 points per game while coming off the bench. Allen, the 5’10 senior from International High School in San Francisco is currently 34-36 from the line for the Slugs, hitting his last 29 shots in a row. Nate Morhi, the 5’10 point guard from Don Bosco Tech is perfect from the line for the season, 17 for 17. Nate currently leads the Slugs with 23 assists and 16 steals for the season. 6’4 senior Tyler Hunt of Middletown High School is averaging 10.3 points a game. Common opponents for the Oaks and the Slugs include Academy of the Arts and UC Davis. The Slugs defeated Academy of the Arts 82-68 in an exhibition game while Menlo’s most recent victory is a 72-67 victory over AAU. Menlo lost to UC Davis 108-63 in an exhibition game while Santa Cruz dropped a 84-78 decision to the Aggies. After the December 10 game against Menlo, the Slugs go on an extended road trip, opening with Division 1 UC Riverside in Riverside on December 14 and finishing with William Jessup University in Rocklin on January 2. The next home game will be against Cal Lutheran on Tuesday, January 3 at the Slugdome.
